I met up with Don and Jim from Early CJ5.com for a weekend of wheel’n and camping in Ocotillo. Not Ocotillo Wells, the Ocotillo off of Interstate 8. Don has some property there, so we used that as our base camp. He knows this area well and led us through some of the scenic trails in the area. Just as we headed up a canyon for something a little more challenging, Don ran over a stick that somehow impaled the sidewall of his tire. After changing it out for his weathered spare we pulled back and kept to the easier routes.

Jim had noticed some wobble in the rear of his CJ6 while on the trail, and once back at camp discovered that he had lost a rear axle bearing (at the spindle). He unfortunately spent the remainder of his weekend tracking down replacement parts. Napa sold him the wrong parts, twice, but he was eventually able to get it back together.
