We had a great weekend at Calico. We arrived Thursday afternoon and after a couple of hours of driving around we found the perfect campsite. It was a nice little clearing away from everyone else about mid-way between Odessa Canyon and Phillips Loop Road, not far off the paved Ghost Town Road. Friday was family day at the Ghost Town. We explored every inch of the place and ended up seeing and doing a lot more stuff than the first time we were there. The Maggie Mine Tour is fun and well woth the extra dollar.

We had planned on taking the cut across short cut to the Odessa Canyon trailhead, but I somehow missed the turn and we continued north on Phillips Loop. It worked out just as well. We then went northwesterly and joined the Odessa at the north end. After a snack and some exploring at the Bismark Mine we backtracked and went down Odessa Canyon. As I said, this was just as well since on of the Jeeps in our group (a JK) was essentially stock and if we had gone UP Odessa, it probably would've made for a much longer day.

There seemed to be enough technical sections to keep everyone interested. There was some rock stacking and spotting required for a few in group. It's always a relief to get passed the off camber partially paved section of the canyon.

On Sunday I loaded up Sheri and both the young ones for another cruise on Phillips Loop. This time we took the short detour to Kramer's Arch. The MB fit through, but Danny in his TJ decided against it. At the north end of Phillips Loop we explored some more mines. These appear to be in much worse condition (less stable) than the Bismark. I didn't feel comfotable spending a lot of time in them.
